After being given a rest on Thursday following two intensive games against Maribor and Aktobe on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, the players took to the training pitch once more. The session was an intensive one and lasted for nearly two hours.
The training’s main focus was on the playing drills. It involved a mock match on part of the field, in which the players were allowed to make a limited amount of touches, before focusing on the technique on the volleyed shots. The crosses for those came in from … Oleg Kononov and his assistant Sergei Kuznetsov.
Ayaz Guliev was the centre of attention. Our midfielder tried to perform a bicycle kick on most crosses and pulled it off on several occasions in brilliant style, drawing praise from our Latin American teammates.
Lorenzo Melgarejo missed the session altogether. The Paraguayan pulled his hamstring during yesterday’s match, so today he worked with the physio at the hotel.
The players are now back in double sessions mode and will play another friendly on Saturday, against Slovan, who currently sit top of the table in Slovakia.
