Spartak’s head coach Oleg Kononov gave his thoughts on the 1:3 defeat to Slovan.
— It’s unpleasant that we lost. But it was to be expected, because teams are at a different stage in their preparation. Slovan’s first official game is on February 16. They were quicker, sharper. We continue to train intensively, twice a day. We had two sessions again yesterday, so we couldn’t have been just as fresh. We’ll look easier on the eye during the fourth tour. The current one is the hardest, the team knows that.
We conceded goals because we weren’t quick enough in transition from attack to defense, and thus couldn’t deal with Slovan’s pace on the counter. I won’t single out any of my players. During the first half everyone was positionally at fault. But not because the players are inferior. We are just not as prepared as Slovan right now.
For example, Bocchetti is not completely fit now, but we give him minutes to aid his return to full fitness. This is true for Fernando and some other players too.
— What’s up with Selikhov, who asked to be subbed off in the early stages?
— He felt pain in his back. I don’t think it’s anything serious.
